Fighting with bundles!
This morning was a real blessing…but let us start the story on Thursday night when I met with our Senior Youth Group and we discussed our commitment to Social Justice and becoming volunteers in our community. It was the youth’s idea to start volunteering instead of just discussing our faith every week. As Christians we often learn the best lessons, and truly see God, when we are working for and with our neighbours!!
I invited the youth to volunteer this weekend with the St. Vincent de Paul Society packing the truck with clothes for Bundle Sunday. While the youth thought the St. Vincent de Paul Society helped “homeless people” I explained that not everyone in need was homeless. Sometimes those in need have homes, but need a few extra clothes or appliances for their families. Today, many families include a family member who has lost their job, so they may find that they need help from different groups like St. Vincent de Paul.
I was extremely proud of our youth when this Sunday morning I showed up at the truck at 8 am and there stood two of our senior youth, ready to work!! As the truck got more and more full, our youth were giving it there all, fighting with bundles to make the truck as full as possible!! It was a lot of fun! Check out the volunteers working so hard to pile things high at the 10am Mass;

Here’s our team at the 12pm Mass!

And yes, some were more eager than others, and chased people who looked like they were donating (to help them with their bags)! Yes, energy is always rewarded, I call it a new sport, bundle hunting! *Hopefully we didn’t scare too many people!
off he goes!

returning with what he caught!

Anyway, we had a wonderful time together, and right there in those bundles…I could somehow see Christ laughing so hard at these young people….Jesus definitely knew that helping others doesn’t have to be boring!
